The difference

Anyone can pull cable. The value is in what happens after.

A cable that passes a link test today and a cable that someone can find in three years are two different deliverables, and only one of them is worth paying for. The cheapest bids in this trade save money by skipping the parts you cannot see on day one: no labeling scheme, no test results, patch panels wired in whatever order the installer happened to work in.

Then a drop goes down. Your IT person is standing in a closet with 200 identical white cables and no way to tell which one serves the conference room, so a two-minute fix becomes an afternoon of tracing with a toner. That afternoon costs more than the labeling would have.

Every run we install is labeled at both ends and tested to verify it performs at the required level. You keep the documentation. It is the least glamorous thing we do and the thing our clients notice most, usually about a year after we leave.

What we install

The full cabling scope, on one walkthrough

  • Cat6 and Cat6a horizontal cabling - workstation drops, wireless access point drops, printers, time clocks, and anything else that needs a port
  • Backbone and riser cabling - between floors and between closets, copper or fiber depending on distance
  • Racks, cabinets, and patch panels - laid out so the closet still makes sense after the next three moves
  • Cable pathways - J-hooks, ladder rack, conduit sleeves, and proper support rather than cable draped on ceiling grid
  • Voice and phone system cabling - including demarc extensions when the carrier drops you in the wrong room
  • Wireless access point drops - placed for coverage, with the reach headroom to upgrade the AP later
  • New construction rough-in and trim - sequenced against the GC's schedule and coordinated with the other trades
  • Occupied retrofit - after-hours and weekend work so your staff keeps working

How a cabling job actually runs

The walkthrough is not a sales visit. It is where the scope gets built, and it is the reason our number tends to hold once the work starts.

Walk the building

Real distances, ceiling and wall construction, existing closets, riser access, and where the paths can actually go. We photograph what we find.

Scope it in writing

Drop counts, cable types, terminations, pathway work, and where each phase happens. Tied to what we saw, not to an allowance.

Install and support

Clean runs, proper support and bend radius, coordination with electrical and mechanical. Disruptive work moves to off hours in occupied space.

Label, test, hand over

Both ends labeled, every run tested, patch panels ordered logically, and the documentation goes to you.

Structured cabling questions we get

How long does a structured cabling install take?

It depends on drop count, building construction, and whether the space is occupied. A small office of 20 to 30 drops is usually a matter of days. A warehouse with long runs and high ceilings, or an occupied building where the disruptive work happens after hours, takes longer. The walkthrough is where we can give you a real schedule instead of a guess.

Should we use Cat6 or Cat6a?

Cat6 handles gigabit comfortably and 10 gigabit over short distances, and it is sufficient for most office drops. Cat6a supports 10 gigabit across the full run length and is worth the added cost for backbone runs, wireless access points you expect to upgrade, and anywhere you do not want to pull cable again in five years. We will tell you where each one makes sense in your building rather than upselling the whole job.

Can you install cabling in an occupied building?

Yes, and most of our work is exactly that. We schedule the disruptive portions after hours or on weekends, protect finished spaces, keep paths clean as we go, and plan cutovers so your staff returns to a working network rather than a project in progress.

What documentation do we get at the end?

Every run is labeled at both ends, at the drop and in the closet, and tested to confirm it performs at the required level. You keep the test results and the labeling scheme, which means your IT team or your next contractor can trace any drop without pulling ceiling tile.

Do you work with general contractors on new construction?

Regularly. We handle rough-in and trim on the GC's schedule, coordinate sleeves and pathways with electrical and mechanical before walls close, and provide closeout documentation. See our page for general contractors for how we fit into a build.
