Elite Wiring Co. is a family-owned low voltage contractor working in commercial buildings: lobby and breakroom screens, conference room AV, digital signage, and tenant spaces. The coax and display cabling goes in alongside the data, terminated and tested by the same crew.

What we do is the commercial version of that work, which is a different job entirely. Twenty displays across a hotel, not one over a fireplace. A signage wall in a lobby that has to be fed from a closet two floors away. A conference room where the display, the codec, and the network drop all have to land behind the same panel and none of it can be visible. Runs that get labeled at both ends because someone other than you will maintain them.

  • Lobby and breakroom displays - coax and network feeds pulled to the wall location, terminated clean, nothing draped behind the screen

Why the last display on the run is the one that fails

Signal is a budget. Every splitter, every tap, and every foot of cable spends some of it, and the outlet at the end of the chain is where an undersized design shows up.

In a house that math almost never matters. In a commercial building it decides the whole design. A headend that feeds four screens in a lobby is a different layout than one feeding six floors of guest rooms, and the difference is not the cable, it is where the amplification sits, how the taps are ordered, and how long the worst-case run is. We measure real distances during the walkthrough rather than pacing off a floor plan, because the run that goes around a mechanical room is the one that breaks the budget.

Then it gets tested. Every run we install is labeled at both ends and tested to verify it performs, which means the display that goes fuzzy in month eight is a fixture problem or a provider problem, and you can rule out the cable in about a minute because the documentation is sitting in your closet.

Pull the coax and the data on the same walkthrough

Almost no commercial display is coax-only anymore. The screen may take a provider feed, but the signage player, the room scheduler outside the door, and the conference room codec all need a network drop, and the wireless access point in that corridor probably does too. Every one of those is a hole in the same ceiling.

So we scope them together. When we walk your building for display cabling, we are also looking at where the structured cabling needs to go, whether the closet those runs land in can actually take them, and whether the building needs fiber between closets to carry it. One mobilization, one set of ceiling work, one set of labels that all follow the same scheme.

Every quote starts with an on-site walkthrough. We measure the runs, look at the ceiling and wall construction, find the closets, and photograph what we find. The number you get comes from the building, not from an allowance.

TV and coax cabling questions we get

Can you run coax and data cable on the same visit?

Yes, and it is usually the cheaper way to do it. Most displays now need both a coax feed and a network drop, and a signage player or a conference room codec needs data more than it needs coax. Opening the ceiling once, pulling both, and terminating both in the same closet costs less than two separate mobilizations. We scope the coax and the structured cabling together on one walkthrough.

Do we still need coax if our displays are on streaming or IPTV?

Sometimes not, and we will say so. If every display is fed by a network player or an IPTV head unit, the right answer may be a Cat6 drop at each location instead of coax. Plenty of buildings still need coax for a cable or satellite feed, for an existing distribution system they are not replacing, or for a mixed environment where some tenants take a provider feed. The walkthrough is where we sort out which one your building actually needs.

Can you work in an occupied hotel or office building?

Yes, and most of this work is exactly that. In hotels we work floor by floor or block by block around occupancy so rooms come back online the same day. In offices and clinics the disruptive portions move to after hours or weekends. We protect finished surfaces, keep the corridors clear as we go, and do not leave a job half open overnight in a public space.

What does a digital signage run involve?

At each display location we bring in what the player needs, typically a network drop and power coordination, plus coax where a provider feed is part of the mix, and we land it behind the display so no cable is visible. Back at the closet the runs terminate on a patch panel in a logical order. Every run is labeled at both ends, so when a screen at the far end of the lobby goes dark, whoever is troubleshooting knows which port feeds it.
